Since Star Wars’ The Mandalorian was first released in 2019, Star Wars fans worldwide have come to love Din Djarin’s apprentice Grogu (also known as “Baby Yoda”) massively.

Grogu and his father-like figure – Mando – have traversed across the Star Wars galaxy, diving into enthralling, gripping, and suspenseful adventures.

With the Season 3 finale, Grogu and Mando continue their bounty-hunting endeavors across the galaxy, but Grogu’s future largely remains an open book, bringing forward questions about what Grogu’s future could entail.

Physical capabilities:

Over the next coming seasons, Grogu and Mando are going to continue their entertaining adventures, diving into battle as they venture into the depths of the galaxy. Grogu and Mando are going to encounter some formidable opponents along their adventures, as they already have done many times before. These encounters should serve to develop Grogu’s combat experience, leading to an overall development in Grogu’s physical capabilities. Grogu should continue to strengthen his force abilities, harnessing a more potent force push and force pull, like that of a seasoned Jedi. We know Grogu is proficient in using Beast Control: a force ability that allows an individual to tame beasts. Therefore, it is likely that Grogu will continue to enhance this ability, eventually becoming sufficient to tame the Mythosaur on Mandalore.

What would be a very interesting addition to Grogu would be to see him equipped with a blaster.

Since Grogu is a Jedi, it is very likely that he will possess a lightsaber sometime in the future, perhaps earning the Darksaber in a duel. However, Grogu could adopt traits from both the Mandalorians and the Jedi. Grogu could be inspired to wield a blaster just like his bounty-hunting father, Mando. Maybe Grogu could inherit his blaster after Mando’s death, embracing the bounty hunter spirit. Seeing Grogu utilise both a blaster and a lightsaber would be a unique synergy that would be visually spectacular to witness on screen.

Grogu’s destiny:

Presently in the show, Grogu is an infant who is incapable of speaking and looking after himself, which makes Mando an important guardian of Grogu. As Grogu continues to age, it will be intriguing to witness him develop, perhaps beginning to see what Grogu’s dreams and aspirations are, and getting a deeper understanding of who he really is.

Grogu has had a turbulent history with the Jedi order, after witnessing the catastrophic event of Order 66. This may have disincentivised Grogu from becoming a fully pledged Jedi, but could remain a proficient user in the force, much like Ashoka Tano.

Many fans theorise that by the time of the Rey Movie (which will be set 25 years after the events of The Mandolorian), it will feature Grogu as an adolescent Jedi assisting Rey in her goal of rebuilding the Jedi Order.

On another note, other Star Wars fans predict Grogu could become the next leader of Mandalore. The basis of this theory stems from the belief that the true meaning of the show’s title “The Mandalorian” is a reference to Grogu, and not Din Djarin at all. The theory goes further, believing that Grogu will become a Mandalorian Jedi ruler of Mandalore. Many fans note the similarities between the historic Mandalorian ruler Tarre Vizsla and Grogu. Tarre Vizsla was an ancient Mandalorian Jedi that wielded the Darksaber and claimed authority over Mandalore centuries ago. Grogu could very well become the successor of Tarre Vizsla. A Mandalorian Jedi who leads Mandalore to prosperity.

As for now, writers Dave Filoni & Jon Favreau are in complete control over Grogu’s future, and we will have to patiently wait to see what happens.
