Primed to release their EP ‘Paradise Lost’, Cheltenham based emo pop-punks Lightblue caught up with us to chat about their new material. With sounds comparable to that of Neck Deep and Boston Manor, the band are hitting the scene hard with their punchy riffs and catchy lyrics.

Rowena: So, where did the name ‘Lightblue’ come from?

Lightblue: The name Lightblue came about because our original name (Sioux Falls) was actually taken by an American emo band, so we decided it would be best to change the name and make a fresh start with Lightblue, as it suits the style of our music a lot more.

R: Tell us a little bit about how you guys formed/found each other.

Lightblue: Well originally the band was made up of people studying at the same university, but gradually over time we added new people who we felt fitted our style more and could add a different dynamic to our music. But saying that, we try and bring the old members back in for special guest appearances because we’re all still friends and still go to support all the shows they all do.

R: Where does your musical inspiration come from?
Lightblue: We get a lot of our inspiration from lots of different areas of music, but naturally from Pop-Punk/Emo bands like The Front Bottoms and Boston Manor which was why we were so amazingly grateful when we had the chance to work with Henry from Boston Manor. He filmed our music video for ‘In The Back of my Bedroom’, and it was great because we got to talk about a lot of things that you could only learn from other bands that are really making waves right now.

R: Tell us a bit about your upcoming EP ‘Paradise Lost’.

Lightblue: ‘Paradise Lost’ is the first EP we’ve recorded as Lightblue, and we have really high hopes for it. We got to record at The Ranch Production House in Southampton, who have recorded bands like Creeper, Gnarwolves, Boston Manor, and our good friends from Brighton, Evertim, who we recently toured with in Bristol, Birmingham, London and Liverpool.

R: Any plans for an album?

Lightblue: We do, but we have plans to do a second EP first, and then an album after that. We have a lot of songs that we really want to get out, but it’s important to us that we make sure they’re fully fleshed out before we release them.

R: What’s the most ‘rock star’ thing that has happened to any of you so far?

Lightblue: Aha, well, that’s a tough question! We don’t get into many rock star situations, but probably just meeting all these other bands that we love and getting to play shows with them, and just generally talking to them about literally anything, from football to how touring America went. It’s insane!

And finally, just because we know you’re all wondering…

R: If you could be a biscuit, what kind would you be?

Lightblue: Probably Party Rings…Party Rings are extremely colourful, and the best.

Listen to Lightblue’s EP ‘Paradise Lost’ from 8th December and keep an eye out for future tour dates!
