What is Rebel?

Image

At the University of Essex, there is an incredible creative community. From Filmmakers to Writers, Photographers to radio presenters, students are producing all kinds of innovative works. Rebel is the part of the Students' Union that exists to provide a platform for this community, give support to those who need it, and connect them to an audience of 14 000 students.

Members are the heart and soul of what Rebel does. We run training for our members to develop their skills. We run special events aimed at giving members more experience with writing articles, taking photos, creating videos, being part of live broadcasts/webcasts, and presenting and producing radio shows.

These opportunities are open to every single student at Essex - you don't have to follow a lengthy application process, and you don't have to commit to anything unless you specifically want to. If you want to be involved, the first thing you need to do is join Rebel for free at www.rebelessex.com/join, then tell us what you want to do on the form here - it's really that simple.

Executive Committee Roles

What is the Rebel committee?

Image

Rebel is run by students and to make sure the best content is always accessible for the community, Rebel needs a good amount of people to keep the engine running. Rebel runs a number of projects every week and the key to creating amazing content that is relevant to our audience is good communication and coordination.

The Executive committee are the people who make Rebel happen, who make the opportunities for our members happen, and who push it to the next level in our Editorial, Video, Radio and Marketing teams. Rebel is still young and has a long way to go, and you can be a part of that journey. If you're on the committee, you are shaping the future of Student Media at Essex.

There are a lot of roles available here, and that's normal. Just like societies and sports clubs, the committee changes every year to keep Rebel relevant and open to all. But Rebel has a huge committee, so if you want to be a part of it, there is probably a role waiting for you here.

Have a glance at the volunteer committee positions we have available, take a look at the role descriptions, and if you see something that you want to do, apply here.
